A Practical Technical Field Trip Organized within the Scope of Ayvalık Vocational School's Wood Conservation Course
Under the leadership of Dr. Güzel
Öztürk, faculty member of the Architectural Restoration Program at Ayvalık
Vocational School, a comprehensive technical field trip was organized to
provide students with hands-on experience in the conservation and restoration
of wooden materials.
The event enabled students to
reinforce their theoretical knowledge through real-life applications in the
field.
During the technical trip,
students gained detailed knowledge on:
- Analyzing the causes of wood deterioration,
- Characteristics of different wood types and their
use in architecture,
- Surface treatments on historical wooden doors,
- Preservation and documentation of original wooden
elements,
- Repair and strengthening methods for damaged wood
components,
- Tools and practical techniques used in shaping
wood.
Throughout the on-site
investigations, students had the opportunity to assess environmental,
biological, and structural factors contributing to deterioration, allowing them
to experience a holistic approach to wood conservation.
We extend our gratitude to Güvenli Mimari Restorasyon for opening their woodworking workshop to us and contributing to students’ professional training by providing valuable hands-on experience and knowledge. @guvelimimarirestorasyon
