Under the leadership of Dr. Güzel Öztürk, faculty member of the Architectural Restoration Program at Ayvalık Vocational School, a comprehensive technical field trip was organized to provide students with hands-on experience in the conservation and restoration of wooden materials.

The event enabled students to reinforce their theoretical knowledge through real-life applications in the field.

During the technical trip, students gained detailed knowledge on:

  • Analyzing the causes of wood deterioration,
  • Characteristics of different wood types and their use in architecture,
  • Surface treatments on historical wooden doors,
  • Preservation and documentation of original wooden elements,
  • Repair and strengthening methods for damaged wood components,
  • Tools and practical techniques used in shaping wood.

Throughout the on-site investigations, students had the opportunity to assess environmental, biological, and structural factors contributing to deterioration, allowing them to experience a holistic approach to wood conservation.

We extend our gratitude to Güvenli Mimari Restorasyon for opening their woodworking workshop to us and contributing to students’ professional training by providing valuable hands-on experience and knowledge. @guvelimimarirestorasyon
