A Technical Trip to the Ancient City of Pergamon Was Organized within the Scope of Ayvalık Vocational School Architectural Restoration Program

Within the scope of the courses “Archaeological Excavation Techniques and Knowledge” and “Urban History,” a technical trip to the Ancient City of Pergamon was organized under the guidance of Dr. Güzel Öztürk and Dr. Figen Erdoğdu, faculty members of the Architectural Restoration Program at Ayvalık Vocational School.

The Ancient City of Pergamon, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is one of Turkey’s most significant archaeological sites, with its rich cultural layers extending from the Hellenistic period to the Roman and Byzantine eras. In this context, the technical trip not only provided students with the opportunity to reinforce their theoretical knowledge on-site but also allowed them to gain practical insights into excavation methods, ancient construction systems, as well as conservation and restoration techniques.

During the visit, students had the chance to closely examine the city’s structures, their historical development, urban planning, and cultural layers. They were also informed about the recently uncovered mosaic structures through ongoing excavations and the restoration activities being carried out.
