The Book Club operating within Balıkesir University Ayvalık Vocational School held its second meeting under the guidance of Lecturer Gülşah Yetgin Gözüaçık.

During the meeting, the novel My Sweet Orange Tree by Brazilian author José Mauro de Vasconcelos, considered one of the significant works of world literature, was discussed. Throughout the event, the novel was evaluated around the themes of childhood, poverty, love, hope, and human values, while its characters, narrative style, and emotional structure were discussed with contributions from the students.

Participating students shared their thoughts on the work and had the opportunity to collectively examine the individual and social impacts of a literary text. This process contributed significantly to strengthening students’ reading habits, developing their critical thinking skills, and enabling them to express themselves by gaining different perspectives.

The Ayvalık Vocational School Book Club aims to increase intellectual exchange among students through literature, create an environment of cultural togetherness, and enrich university life not only academically but also culturally. The Book Club’s activities are planned on a monthly basis, each focusing on a different literary work, and will continue with sustained student participation.
