Conference on Ayvalık Industrial Landscape in the Context of UNESCO World Heritage Held at Ayvalık Vocational School
Within the framework of the Architectural Restoration Program at Balıkesir University Ayvalık Vocational School, and as part of the Conservation Seminars coordinated by Lecturer Gülşah Yetgin Gözüaçık, a conference titled “A Conservation Case in the Context of UNESCO World Heritage: The Ayvalık Industrial Landscape” was held.
The event took place at the Ayvalık Vocational School Conference Hall and addressed the process of the Ayvalık Industrial Landscape’s inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, area management practices, and conservation approaches. The conference was moderated by Lecturer Gülşah Yetgin Gözüaçık. The Ayvalık Site Management Office team, consisting of Site Manager Dr. Berrin Akın Akbüber, Architect Fatih Kurunaz, and Archaeologist Ufuk Kırca, participated as speakers. In their presentations, they shared with participants the cultural values of the Ayvalık Industrial Landscape within the framework of the UNESCO World Heritage concept, the studies carried out since 2017, and the latest developments regarding the site management process.
The event was held with strong participation from students and academic staff. During the question-and-answer session following the presentations, evaluations were made on the balance between conservation and use, the sustainability of industrial heritage, and the role of universities in site management processes.
At the end of the program, certificates of appreciation were presented to the speakers by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yakup Dinç, Director of Ayvalık Vocational School, along with Vice Directors Dr. Faculty Member Figen Erdoğdu and Lecturer Hayri Taşkır.
In memory of the event, flowers were presented to Dr. Berrin Akın Akbüber, representing the Ayvalık Site Management Office, by the conference moderator Lecturer Gülşah Yetgin Gözüaçık. The conference concluded with a group photograph.
