As part of the Surveying and Restoration Project course, students of the Architectural Restoration Program within the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Balıkesir University Ayvalık Vocational School participated in a technical field trip to the Historic Gümüşlü Olive Oil Factory on 15 April 2026. The visit, which focused on Conservation and Adaptive Reuse, was led by Restoration Specialist, Architect, and Lecturer Gülşah Yetgin Gözüaçık.

During the field trip, students conducted an on-site assessment of the historic building, examining its current physical condition and architectural characteristics. They identified conservation-related issues and developed preliminary proposals for its adaptive reuse while considering the principles of architectural conservation.

Such practice-oriented activities play an important role in reinforcing students' theoretical knowledge through hands-on experience. Examining this significant example of industrial heritage on site provided students with valuable professional experience and contributed to their understanding of conservation and restoration practices.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Tunç Cecan, the owner of the historic building, for his generous hospitality and valuable support throughout the technical visit.
