31 October 2025

As part of the “Archaeology and Excavation Knowledge” course offered within the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Ayvalık Vocational School, students had the opportunity to experience the basic stages of scientific excavation work in practice.

During the practical training conducted under the guidance of Dr. Lecturer Güzel Öztürk, students learned modern archaeological field techniques firsthand, including the use of a total station, taking measurements, creating trenches, documentation, and data recording methods.

Throughout the activity, students directly observed the operating principles of measurement devices and how data is interpreted in an excavation area. This allowed them not only to rely on theoretical knowledge but also to personally experience the scientific documentation process of archaeological excavations.

Such practical courses carried out at Ayvalık Vocational School aim to help students transfer their theoretical knowledge to the field, develop awareness regarding the preservation of archaeological heritage, and prepare for professional research processes.
